Peptide Storage Guide
9 September 2026
Why storage matters
Peptides degrade through hydrolysis, oxidation and microbial contamination, and each is accelerated by poor storage. Keeping a compound intact between delivery and use is the difference between a reliable result and an unexplained one.
Lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides
The lyophilised powder is the most stable form. Store it according to how long it will be kept:
- Short-term (< 1 month) – Room temperature in a dry, dark location
- Medium-term (1-6 months) – Refrigerate at 2-8°C
- Long-term (> 6 months) – Store at -20°C or below
Keep vials sealed and away from moisture, and let a cold vial reach room temperature before opening it so condensation does not form on the powder.
Reconstituted peptides
Once a peptide has been reconstituted with bacteriostatic water:
- Store at 2-8°C (refrigerator)
- Use within 21-28 days for optimal stability
- Never refreeze reconstituted solutions
- Use sterile technique when withdrawing from vials
Good practice
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles – aliquot into single-use portions where practical
- Protect from light – UV radiation accelerates degradation
- Use an appropriate solvent – bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the usual choice
- Label everything – record the reconstitution date, concentration and storage temperature
Quick reference
| Form | Temperature | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Lyophilised | -20°C | 12+ months |
| Lyophilised | 2-8°C | 6 months |
| Reconstituted | 2-8°C | 21-28 days |
