9 September 2026
Overview
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic peptide of 15 amino acids. Its sequence is a fragment of a protective protein found in human gastric juice.
Mechanism of action
Preclinical studies have observed BPC-157 interacting with several biological pathways:
- Nitric oxide (NO) system – modulation of NO synthase activity
- Growth factor expression – upregulation of growth hormone receptors and VEGF
- FAK-paxillin pathway – involvement in cellular migration and adhesion
- Dopaminergic system – interaction with dopamine receptors
Research applications
The preclinical literature has examined BPC-157 in these settings:
- Soft tissue repair – tendon, ligament and muscle studies
- Gastrointestinal models – mucosal protection and ulcer models
- Neuroprotection – dopaminergic and serotonergic pathway studies
- Vascular function – angiogenesis and blood vessel formation
