MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA, first described in 2015 by the Cohen laboratory at USC. It is one of very few known peptides encoded by the mitochondrial rather than the nuclear genome. Supplied for laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.

A mitochondrial-derived peptide, for metabolic research.

What the research shows

Studies have examined AMPK activation, the central regulator of cellular energy metabolism, and effects on glucose uptake, fatty-acid oxidation and metabolic homeostasis.

Other work treats MOTS-c as an exercise mimetic and tracks its change with age. It opened a new field of mitochondrial-derived peptides as metabolic signals.

MOTS-c is less stable than many peptides. Keep time outside refrigeration to a minimum when handling.

Why researchers choose Aevryn Labs
